The gent’s wrist watch drawing inspiration from Art Deco
Launched Wednesday, 2nd September 2015 & built in Britain. Nº 1929 gent’s wrist watch by WT Author is set fifteen years after Author’s second collection. It draws inspiration from the period leading up to the Wall Street Crash. This was a time in history when Western society was seemingly nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before. Because of the ever evolving aesthetic to Author’s signature silhouette, we are referencing the cushion case watch. The brazed lugs take on a more contemporary look with our modified 20mm handmade leather strap. We build the product using tailor-made components from every corner of the globe (from USA to South America, Asia to Switzerland and of course, UK).
The gent’s wrist watch referencing 1920s era watches
The gent’s wrist watch measures 42 mm across, 49 mm high including the lugs with an overall case depth of 10.5 mm. The dials utilise polished numbers taking influence directly from 1920s era cushion watches. They are finished with a beautifully etched guilloché centre pattern. The minute track is enhanced with Author’s unique “tuning fork” indices. Traditionally formed custom-made hands complete the dial. The wrist watches for men have been modernised with the beautiful “casino chip” enamel screw down case back. They are completed with a signature red aluminium crown embossed with the brand’s iconic trademark.
The watch strap made by hand in the UK
Each raw leather watch strap is made by hand in UK using Argentinian-sourced buffalo hide. The rich colour of these 8 – 9 ounce double shoulders goes completely through the leather. Finished to an incredibly high standard the result is a naturally beautiful strap with a coarse grain. The strap has been designed and manufactured to fit a 24 mm lug width with an overall thickness of 3 – 4 mm and is embossed with the WT Author ‘A’ trademark. Rounded strap edges and burnished using our own organic wax each strap is completed with a polished full buckle.

After two amazing pieces of art, WT Author made me wonder if the third would be in the same style with just a twist. But they came up with something extraordinary totally different and very tasteful. The inner carvings are lovely and somewhat change with the light during the day, I noticed mine weren’t deep enough, but a very fast fix by Jon and Sam (and the mail man) made it possible I had my watch re done and back within a week. Great job guys and let’s wait i great anticipation what you will have for us next year!

Bought as Christmas present for my husband. I was so pleased with it that I couldn’t wait to give it to him. Looks stunning and is a truly beautiful timepiece. He loves it!

The Blue 1929 watch, is one of the most beautiful and subtle watches I have had the privilege to own. When I first opened it, I thought the guilloche pattern on the dial was too subtle. However after looking at it in much better light, it is definitely noticeable. I had to put the watch strap on the very last notch, as my wrist is so skinny. Plus the photos make it look like the dial pops just a little more than it does, but that’s more of a nit pick and good photography on WT Author’s part. Overall, it is a fantastic watch.

A great watch for wearing at formal occasions, an elegant design and looks very different from a mass market watch. I love the blue face, it’s subtle but still manages to stand out. It’s my watch of choice for going out and about to dressed up events.
