2018 Poppy Appeal
Last November we released a special edition watch limited to just one item № 1953 Red.
It was inspired by the work of Royal British Legion with all funds being donated to Poppy Appeal Shropshire.
This was a fitting tribute during the centenary commemorations and the Royal British Legion’s Thank You movement, as in 1914 it was still considered “improper” for civilian men to wear a wristwatch, but synchronization of military action made knowing the right time essential and the wristwatch was too practical to ignore.
The time piece sold for an incredible £2,080, taking the Wem Poppy Appeal total for the year to £10,711.
Jenny Robey, Community Fundraiser for Shropshire said: “During the 2018 Poppy Appeal, we were looking for new and interesting ways to say Thank You to the First World War generation. To have a local business produce something so incredibly special which not only fitted in with the theme but that went on to raise so much for our beneficiaries was fantastic. Wrist watches are part of that generation’s legacy and this was such an exciting way to raise the vital funds we need to help us provide crisis grants, research the long lasting impact of blast injuries on the body, lobby the government on issues that affect our community, or provide sport and art based recovery programmes for our beneficiates.”
Pictured are members of Wem Royal British Legion branch, including Branch President Ted Davies, Margaret Davies, Phil Moyse and Ruth Comeford. They are joined by Jon Shakespeare of WT Author and Jenny Robey Community Fundraiser for the Shropshire Poppy Appeal.
